Auctionata: When Social Media meets Online Auctions

As a lover of design and all things digital, Jef Kalil recalls a specific moment that sparked his passion for online media: watching the VT100 animation “Bambi vs. Godzilla” at Digital Equipment Corporation when he was just 8 years old.

Later on in his life, he followed his heart and pursued an Architecture and Design career in Boston which led him to study abroad in Germany. There, he discovered the Bauhaus and the real meaning of “less is more” which may have very well helped in establishing a second passion of his – to deliver content in 140 characters or less.

Now, Jef is the Social Media Marketing Manager of the pioneering online auction-house and startup, Auctionata, where he combines his love for design with technology on a daily basis. His weekly paper, the Antiques & Antiquities Roundup caught our attention and we wanted to learn more!

Twitter just added Lead Generation to Twitter Cards, this could be big!

Currently I’m working with my dev team on implementing Twitter cards. These are scheduled to launch during this the upcoming dev sprint. Given the constant updates from Twitter cards, it looks like I may need to revise my briefing. Just kidding, but just in some exciting news from that gives insight into just how Twitter is moving towards becoming a major paid social media marketing platform. Twitter unveiled the Lead Generation Card today, a new expandable tweet format which allows users to show their interest in a particular discount or offer that’s being promoted by their favorite brand.

When a user expands the tweet, they’ll see a description of the offer, as well a small button underneath that will allow them to instantly send their basic contact information – name, Twitter handle and email address – to the brand or business in question.

LinkedIn Now Offers Multimedia Portfolios – PSFK

This is really exciting news and shows how much LinkedIn is the social channel for the professional world.

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional online network with over 2million users in 200 countries worldwide has had a makeover. The site now allows users to upload videos, images and presentations amongst other rich media to showcase their work and skills. The new ‘LinkedIn Professional Portfolio’ helps to turn the previously text-only resume site into a portfolio platform with interactive features such as a like button and comment boxes. Users can upload visual content to the ‘Summary,’ ‘Experience’ and ‘Education’ sections to sit alongside fewer more concise words.
