From a distance, this building reads as one sculptural object. Move closer and the delivery challenge becomes easier to see.



The finished envelope depends on multiple specialist systems working together. Structure establishes geometry. Secondary systems create the interfaces. Waterproofing, insulation and substructure establish the conditions for thousands of individually formed façade elements. Each package carries assumptions into the next.
During delivery, the specialist contractor responsible for part of the facade works filed for insolvence.
The project continued, but one of the relationships carrying knowledge about those interfaces suddenly disappeared.
The drawings still existed. The specifications and geometry still existed. What became harder to replace was the knowledge around them: why an interface had been resolved that way, which tolerances mattered, what had already been agreed across disciplines and who now owned the next decision.
This is where specialist delivery creates a particular project-organization challenge.
Replacing a contractor does not automatically replace the project knowledge accumulated around their work. The more interconnected the design becomes, the more important it is that critical project knowledge survives beyond the people who happen to know it.
The finished building gives little indication that this disruption ever occurred.
That may be one of the strongest signs of successful project organization.
