Standing in front of this building, what caught my attention was how unified it appears.
The structure, roof and highly detailed façade resolve into one sculptural object. Yet behind that simplicity are many specialist systems, interfaces and decisions that had to remain connected through design, engineering, fabrication and installation.
By completion, almost all of that complexity has disappeared from view.
The finished building is visible.
The project organization that allowed so many separate parts to become one rarely is.
This site visit became the basis for a Construction Project Observation on what happens when specialist knowledge leaves the delivery chain.
