How Many Social Channels Do You Need? – = +

Less Social is MoreLess is more may sound too simple in this multi-tasking ever-changing social media world that we live in, but it is a smart strategy that will help you stay grounded. Keep it simple and you can scale once the channel you choose is generating business for you.

Begin by spending two weeks listening and monitoring various social channels (Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are a good place to start) and identify groups, pages and people that you think can benefit from your product or service. Pick two or three channels you feel has the best connection to your product or service and focus your efforts there.

I recommend getting your hands on a listening and monitoring tool like Hootsuite. They have a free version that will get you started.

Of course you’ll want to experiment with new networks as they pop up (they pop up every day) but don’t waste too much time. And be ready to let them go if they don’t work for you. Remember to let analytics be your guide.

Not sure where to begin? Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are a good start. They have large audience and span many demographics and industries. And Facebook and Twitter have tools (if you’ve got a budget) that can help you reach a specific audience. If you have great visuals than create a strategy for Pinterest, although currently lacking business tools, is worth exploring. Or if you really want less is more, why not try and create a marketing strategy for Vine.

Is there a social media channel that you’ve found works best for you marketing efforts? Leave your comment below so others can learn from it.
